The Bachhalteweg development is located on a slope, on the upper edge of the town of Brig. Within this area, called Gross Riedbach, the theme of water is very present. From close by you can hear the rushing of the Bachji, the Bachhalteweg and Riedbachstrasse lead to the town. A system of ditches directs the water to wherever it is needed during the summer months. The area is characterized by agricultural use, there are a handful of farm buildings in the immediate vicinity, and cows graze peacefully on the surrounding meadows. Training companies have been established in the area since the 17th century, during the reign of Kaspar Jodok von Stockalper. The St. Ursula monastery and the Upper Valais middle school, the Spiritus Sanctus college and the Upper Valais vocational school are still testament to this today.
